Why can't a chain hoist be pulled diagonally
published:2025-08-12

Many mechanical equipment have their own usage standards, and only with standardized operation can these mechanical equipment operate normally. There are also many precautions when using a chain hoist, one of which is that diagonal pulling is not allowed. The operator should have a clear understanding of the reasons why the chain hoist cannot be pulled diagonally, in order to avoid accidents during lifting operations.

1. When the chain hoist is pulled diagonally, it is not on the same vertical line as the heavy object. At this time, the lifting chain not only needs to bear the pulling force of lifting the heavy object, but also needs to bear the pulling force of pulling the heavy object diagonally. In such a situation, the chain is prone to deformation due to excessive pulling force.

When pulling diagonally, the lifting chain will generate friction with the external casing, and both the chain and casing will be worn.

3. When pulling diagonally, the rope sleeve for hanging heavy objects is not at the center of the hook's normal force point, which makes it easy to detach.

When pulling diagonally, heavy objects are dragged horizontally, and the bottom is prone to wear and tear.

After being lifted diagonally, the heavy object swings back and forth, making it highly susceptible to falling.

6. Heavy objects swinging back and forth may cause the internal parts of the manual hoist to shake, which may lead to brake failure.

Diagonal pulling not only damages the body of the chain hoist, but also may cause accidents due to heavy objects falling. Therefore, when using a chain hoist, it is necessary to avoid diagonal pulling.
